Evolution of altruistic punishments among heterogeneous conditional cooperators

چکیده
Abstract It has been known that altruistic punishments solve the free rider problem in public goods games. Considering spatial structure and considering pure strategies significant advances have made understanding evolution of punishments. However, these models not considered key behavior regularities observed experimental field settings, where individuals behave like conditional cooperators who are more willing to donate also punish riders. behavioral regularities, without imposing a on population, I propose an evolutionary agent-based model which agents cooperators, each agent’s donation difference between number donations past threshold value propensity agent. Altruistic punishment depends focal agent randomly matched another The simulations show that, for certain inflicted costs punishments, generous evolve stabilize cooperation. results unlike previous models, it is necessary all riders equally; do so case selfish but negative reciprocators.

Transfers and Altruistic Punishments in Third Party Punishment Game Experiments
Our research is a variant of the third party punishment game. In particular, we want to test whether players have heterogeneous preferences; the levels of the sanction and of the transfer are proportional to the unfairness of the Dictator; the change of the role influences the Observer’s reaction to unfair behavior; players’ decision to punish the Dictator and/or to help the Receiver depends on...
متن کاملOn the coexistence of cooperators, defectors and conditional cooperators in the multiplayer iterated Prisoner's Dilemma.
Recent experimental evidence [Grujić Fosco, Araujo, Cuesta, Sánchez, 2010. Social experiments in the mesoscale: humans playing a spatial Prisoner's dilemma. PLoS ONE 5, e13749] on the spatial Prisoner's Dilemma suggests that players choosing to cooperate or not on the basis of their previous action and the actions of their neighbors coexist with steady defectors and cooperators. We here study t...
متن کاملEvolution of Altruistic Robots
In this document we examine the evolutionary methods that may lead to the emergence of altruistic cooperation in robot collectives. We present four evolutionary algorithms that derive from biological theories on the evolution of altruism in nature and compare them systematically in two experimental scenarios where altruistic cooperation can lead to a performance increment. We discuss the relati...
متن کاملThe evolution of altruistic punishment.
Both laboratory and field data suggest that people punish noncooperators even in one-shot interactions. Although such "altruistic punishment" may explain the high levels of cooperation in human societies, it creates an evolutionary puzzle: existing models suggest that altruistic cooperation among nonrelatives is evolutionarily stable only in small groups. Thus, applying such models to the evolu...
متن کاملSynchronized Activity and Loss of Synchrony Among Heterogeneous Conditional Oscillators
The inspiratory phase of the respiratory rhythm involves the synchronized bursting of a network of neurons in the brain stem. This paper considers activity patterns in a reduced model for this network, namely, a system of conductance-based ordinary differential equations with excitatory synaptic coupling, incorporating heterogeneities across cells. The model cells are relaxation oscillators; th...
